This is what an ADU looks like on the inside. California's answer to the housing shortage.
Everyone is talking about ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Unit aka Granny Unit) today.
Facing a severe housing shortage, California decided to speed up the construction of additional housing by permitting single family homes with lots to add small units in the back yard. It is a way for homeowners to build equity or generate income by becoming a landlord without buying a separate investment property.
How large depends on the size of the lot. They can be custom built or pre-fabricated at a factory and delivered to the site. This is a huge and growing industry trying to fill the void during our housing shortage.
But you may wonder: what do they look like? Let’s look at a nicely done new ADU.
