There is always new technology that will change the way we live. And here in Silicon Valley, we probably get to see more of that type of revolutionary technology than any other place in the globe.
Well, here is one that will change how our roofs will look in the near future.
Most buyers want to do some sort of upgrade when they purchase a new home. If that upgrade will help them save money or increase the value of their home in the future, then it becomes an easier proposition. Until now, now solar roofs were visually unappealing - in fact, ugly. In order to help save the planet, we had to deal with eye sores on top of our roofs. No longer. Now solar roofs can look just like existing roofs with no visual markers to make them stick out.
And not only visually compatible with existing roofs in the neighborhood, but also more durable than existing types of material. No downside, it seems.
Elon Musk and his company Tesla has now allowed us to plug everything into a battery pack. What this video does not show is his home battery pack called the Power Wall, which permits all of this solar energy to be stored so that you can use it when the need arises. Charge your electric car and home and use the power when you need it.
The problem with solar roofs was that you were not able to store that solar electricity. Your only option was to sell the excess power to your local utility. A use it or lose it proposition. Some homeowners were not willing to deal with the esthetics of going solar, but now that last piece has been removed.
With the GigaFactory producing more batteries bringing down the cost and with the visual component now being removed, going solar at the residential level has never been so attractive or easier. This seems to be a game changer.
